In addition to being a great way to get to know my couples, engagement sessions are the perfect way to gauge exactly what a couple might be up for when it comes to getting creative on their big day. By the end of this session with Will and Catherine, I knew I was in for a treat! From their choice in location to their sharp style, these two had me giddy behind my camera lens from start to finish.

Catherine and Will are getting married in September of 2025 here in Birmingham! But, before I get too excited about what’s sure to be an incredible wedding day, let me fill you in on some quick history. The couple met a few years ago while Will was in the middle of clinicals for medical school, and they lived together for a time in the Forest Park area of Birmingham. The memories they hold from their time there heavily influenced their choice in location: Juniper and Shoppe, located right on Clairmont Avenue!

Catherine and Will arrived dressed to the nines, and we began our time together with a private shoot at Juniper! If you haven’t had a chance to experience Juniper’s eclectic decor, moody vibes and tasty offerings, you’ll need to put it on your Birmingham Bucket List asap.

As the bartender poured Catherine and Will a drink, they filled me in a bit more about what this engagement season has looked like for them. After Will proposed on their annual ski trip at the top of a mountain, they’ve learned to plan while also maintaining their long distance relationship. They were both born and raised here in Birmingham, and Catherine now works as a PA at Grandview Medical, and Will is a resident in Auburn, AL. Long distance is never easy, but they’re thankful that it will soon be in the past!

Right next door to Juniper is Shoppe, a quaint home and garden store with a gorgeous outdoor nursery and greenhouse (that’s also often used for events!). The scenery called for a cute but casual outfit, and I was once again blown away by Catherine and Will’s impeccable style.

Right before our time at Shoppe was through, Catherine’s mom stopped by with a fuzzy addition! Gabel is the newest member of Catherine and Will’s little family (they got him just one week before our session!). Naturally, he had to make an appearance, and he quickly became the star of the show.

If you’ve been following my work for any amount of time, you can likely guess our final destination. The Crest Road overlook provides a beautiful backdrop in every season, which is why it’s typically at the top of my suggestion list. It’s perhaps my favourite place to witness golden hour in the city, and if you’d like to know why, just take a look …

Catherine and Will’s love is a special one. I can see it radiating off them in each of these images, and I feel so lucky to have captured it! It’s an honour to have documented this moment in their lives, and I am not-so-patiently waiting to do it all again come next September!
