10 Birmingham, Alabama COVID Date Ideas

August 20, 2020

The concept of “normal” dates went out the window in March 2020.

After being stuck at home for two years, you’re probably going crazy trying to think of creative ways to keep the spark alive within the confines of your home. But don’t fear … COVID date night ideas in the Magic City of Birmingham are here!

Write a funny song about how your year has been and make dinner

Check out Birmingham’s own Hello Spoonful, Elisabeth and Butter or Southern Bite for fun recipe ideas, then ask the following questions to spark your creativity: What was your favourite quarantine hobby? Did you catch on to any trends? What do you wish you had tried or done during the pandemic?

Build a fort, get pizza from the best in the city and watch a familiar movie

Can I suggest the following? Pizza GM, Davenport’s Pizza, Dave’s Pizza, Slice, Post Office Pies or Slim’s Pizzeria. Birmingham has so many amazing pizza places – these are just a few – so let me know if you find anywhere new!

Go to a bookstore and read on the floor

Kick your shoes off, find a cozy corner and dig up books the other would find interesting. How about stay awhile? Check out: Little Professor Bookshop, Church Street Coffee and Books and 2nd & Charles.

Visit Pepper Place Market on a Saturday

To get some extra social interaction and support local businesses, check out Pepper Place to find out which vendors will be there! People bring their dogs and grab iced coffee while they walk around exploring local goods.

Try a new style of food and eat outside!

Check out Taj India for Indian food, Surin for Thai food, Makarios Kabobs and Grill for Mediterranean food, Eli’s Jerusalem Food for Israeli food and Little London Kitchen for English food. Grab it to go and eat on a deck, in a park or create a new memory downtown.

Get coffee from a local place and walk through Crestline or Mountain Brook

Check out Caveat, Church Street Coffee and Books, O’Henry’s Coffees, Seeds Coffee Co. and Red Cat Coffeehouse. Crestline and Mountain Brook have quaint walking trails. You can meander through shops, walk through the woods or even go at night to see the tree-lined streets all lit up!

Watch a concert on TV and pretend like you’re in attendance.

Turn the lights off, put glow sticks on and dance around the living room to your favourite concert! Check out: Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, One Direction (LOL at these suggestions!).

Go hiking at one of Birmingham’s nature preserves (and maybe take your pet!)

Did you know Birmingham has the most green space per capita than any city in the nation? Check out Ruffner Mountain, Oak Mountain State Park, Moss Rock Preserve, Red Mountain Park and Cheaha State Park.

Make a charcuterie board of childhood finger foods that you loved

Whether that’s from a Publix aisle or places like Birmingham Candy Company, Honeycreeper Chocolate, Crestline Sugar or Sky Bear Confections.

Create a chips + salsa taste test from four different restaurants

Birmingham is renowned for its food, so don’t sleep on the Mexican food scene here down South! Check out El Barrio, Taco Mama, Rojo, Superior Grill and Little Donkey.

I hope this fun list facilitates some great memories as you go on dates. Don’t be afraid to get creative in order to spend time together!
