Highlands Chapel + Mathews Manor Wedding, Birmingham, AL

The long-awaited day finally came. They sat outside Samford Hall at Auburn University the night before they started dating, and David thought to himself, “This is the girl I’m going to marry.”

A meaningful spring wedding day with ceremony and reception at Highlands Chapel and Mathews Manor in Birmingham, Alabama.

He knew it even then. Katie was it for him, and there was no looking back. So when he turned around for their first look, he saw the same beautiful girl from Auburn drumline that he fell in love with. Except this time, she was going to be his wife in two short hours!

Katie and David’s day was a little slice of heaven. After the glowing bride walked into the ceremony to her beaming groom, the congregation sang, “Build My Life” together. As a collective group, they declared together that there is no one holy besides the Lord. Having that as the center of the wedding day was the best way to start a marriage! God was honoured throughout their day in the way they loved people, took time to have conversations and showered everyone around them with kindness and laughter. These two exude Christ.

Spending the day with Katie and David was so effortless because of the friendship we had formed. It’s why I am a wedding photographer – for the connection, the friendship and celebrating people’s personalities through photography. Let’s take it back to the beginning here… Katie booked me as her photographer after chatting over the phone when they got engaged. I liked her immediately from our conversation but had no idea that I would become such good friends with these two! You can read the story of their engagement session palaver here to explain how we dodged the rain multiple times and ended up hanging out instead! I’ve loved getting dinner with them, texting about the wedding (and even being invited on a beach trip! these two are the coolest) and learning from the example of their lives. I’m so looking forward to visiting them in Auburn soon as they begin married life. June 29 was such an honour to photograph these two becoming one.

Katie and David, may you always make the other laugh no matter the day or situation. May you always remember Christ as holy and give each other grace. May you always seek friendship with others and use your powerhouse team to advance the Gospel. Congrats, Allains! I love you guys!

A morning of getting ready isn’t complete without the best snacks! I don’t usually style donuts, but when I do…. they look good, peeps!

The amazing team at Church of the Highlands made this for the Allains!

Morgan said it was the bright sun making her eyes water, but I think it may be the beauty of the bride!

THESE TWO. Our whole team was cracking up as David was posing in “his veil”!

Loved this amazing wedding party!!! They sure know how to celebrate their peeps.

Looks like Jordan was the only good friend in this group…. Ha!
